Live in Possibility

Maximize results through more nimble response to change

Susan Robertson

You’ve probably experienced this:

An urgent challenge needs a solution.

Potential ideas are suggested.

Then, the “yes, but…” kicks in.

  • Yes, but that’s too expensive.

  • Yes, but that will take too long.

  • Yes, but that’s not how our system works.

  • Yes, but Sales (or Operations, or Compliance, or Legal) won’t like that.

And all the ideas are instantly killed.

Based on my experience as a corporate executive, a Harvard instructor, and an innovation consultant, I can tell you

It doesn’t have to be like this.

So, how do you ban the “yes, but” and construct a thriving culture of curiosity?  Elicit people’s innate ability to solve problems and create innovative solutions?  Champion challenging the status quo and prompt more nimble response to change? You remodel their mindset from “Why we can’t” to “How might we…?” so they begin to Live in Possibility™.

That’s where Susan comes in.

With her keynote at our annual Customer Conference, Susan hit the trifecta of powerful, practical, and applicable. Her interactive style made it both easy and fun for us to understand the brain-based barriers to creative thinking and why we’re likely making suboptimal shortcuts every day.

LIVING IN POSSIBILITY

A Mindset Makeover

Understand the why behind “Why we can’t”

Our instinct to “yes, but…” new ideas is rooted in cognitive science.  Specifically, it grows out of the Negativity Bias – negative experiences have a greater impact on us than positive experiences do.  So we’re highly motived to avoid negative, and our brains interpret uncertainty as potential negative.  Recognizing that “yes, but” is based in fear, and consciously choosing to squash it, is the first step to reframe thinking.

Adopt a new Mindset

The GPS™ Method (Great Problem Solving) will equip your people with the mindset, skill-set, and tool-set of creative thinking, and empower them to Live in Possibility™.  They can now navigate around the instinctive negative response and instead focus on developing innovative solutions.

Live in Possibility™

When people truly adopt the GPS™ mindset and begin Living in Possibility™, their passion for the work will reignite.  They will self-identify as innovators.  They will consistently reframe problems as opportunities.  Creative ideas will flourish and the organization will more nimbly respond to change.  All of which translate to maximizing results.

At most conferences, all I hope for is a helpful nugget or two. With Susan’s keynote, I received useful training that I can apply immediately!
